Some songs

I have been writing songs for as long as I have been playing guitar, most of them forgotten. The ones featured on this page are demo's so I they won't fade without ever materializing. I may manage to rescue others from oblivion some or other time. Perhaps I may be one day re-record them as two albums, Healing Songs and Naked Songs.

"Healing Songs"

A set of songs that deals with personal healing in a folk-rock-blues-spiritual.

I see my light come shining
March 05
I wrote the introduction (acapella 1st) verse in my head somewhere towards the end of the previous year. When I got my Mac laptop a bit later it was the first thing that came to my mind when I wanted to test its internal microphone. I sat on the floor of my lounge and sang in the lines, and it sounded nice enough, so I kept it. What you hear in the second verse is this first take. It became the first song I demo'd on the Mac, I was excited about the ability to use free time in a lunch break at work to program in the drums ... and then re-recording the vocal part (acapella intro), adding more drums, effects when I found some time one evening to add more guitars. The slide solo at the end was done on the acoustic, via my mixing desk, also a first take played in real time with an amp simulator on the Mac's Garage Band software. I tediously played in bass and organ parts with the mouse, using the midi facility of the recording suite. I eventually got the drums and stuff to sit okay in the mix, getting quite a live band feel alltogether.
I see my light come shining - compressed file, original intro vocal.
I see my light come shining - larger file, re-recorded intro vocal.
Read the lyric.

"Naked Songs"

I have been wanting to do a set of songs accumulated, naked so to speak, over the lat few years. They could be mostly guitar and voice. If I added and some backing vocal and instrumentation myself they'd still be quite naked.

Perfect Wave
Feb-March 05
I wrote this song, I think, in Decemeber 04, but I liked the chords and kind of no melody for a while. I recorded the guitar and voice together on a single track using only my desk and Mac, and then wanted to add things, there was too little happening. I did it all one Friday evening, played electric lead break and filled out the last verse, then padded in some keys. Made a final mix on the beach the same weekend ... what a life! Gideon managed to play in the bass over the very free time - I took the laptop to his house and he plugged in directly for unrestricted studio kicks. I like the space in this song and in the sound, and would love to do it with better sound in a proper set-up, with some atmospheric drums with lots of cymbal work.
Perfect Wave.
